the fun side of twitch is the double digits

one problem with twitch as a platform is that the content it thinks i want to watch is very boring to me. fortnite streams and youtube reacts just isn't that interesting to me unless it's someone i like doing it (both handily taken care of by, among others, chapo fym). this has become more of an issue as the site has leaned on algorithms and channel tags to do the heavy lifting on showing people streams outside of the top 1,000.

however a few years ago i found the secret strat to finding the most interesting stuff (to me) on twitch, and it's really simple: go to the browse page, sort the categories by view count, and scroll. keep on scrolling until you get to the double digit games (low hundreds are okay for this as well). there you will find a lot of streams will small audiences playing games not because it's the trend but out of a genuine interest.

you're gonna find a lot of weirdos down there, but that's part of the fun. not in a freakshow gawking sort of way, not in my experience. there are streams that i still watch 4-5 years after i discovered them because i asked myself, "who in hell is playing dragon ball budokai tenkaichi 3?" that was how i found the delightful The Great Teacher, who regularly streams SaltyBet-style CPU tournaments (with betting) in the game. sometimes, it won't be anything so grand, just a delightful man playing final fantasy iii on his couch with a !hydrate chat command, prompting him to take a big long drag off his massive water bottle.
