the melodrama in yakuza rocks
I'm not going to get into the specifics of it because despite the game being 12 years old and the rerelease being 3 years old, it's still very late game stuff. Regardless, there's a scene towards the end of yakuza 4 where you watch someone commit murder in cold blood and it is scored with sad but lightly triumphant piano music. And in many ways it is a triumphant moment, one of our heroes is finally, for probably the first time in their life, achieving some sort of agency and gets to protect someone else. However, they do this by literally executing a guy lmao
oh also it's around this time that it's revealed that one of our protagonists is casually a billionaire. not a billionaire from a yen perspective, that's merely $10m usd. No, he's a billionaire from a us dollar perspective. he just has ¥100,000,000,000 in a vault in his office. depending on what the exchange rate is that's easily equivalent to one billion-with-a-b bucks.
it's cool though he uses that money to help people though. ^ _ ^
